Club Rush Day

Club Rush Day is this Friday in the Center Quad.  Come out and check out all the clubs that Lincoln has to offer.  Get information and get involved.  If you club has not signed up yet, please do so A.S.A.P.!

Spirit Bus

A.S.B. is hosting a Spirit Bus for the Patrick Henry Football Game on November 6th.  The cost is $5.00 and does NOT include your admission into the game. You must pick up a permission slip in the A.S.B. room or central office.   Seats are on a first come, first serve basis.  You must turn in your permission slip and money to room 146 (A.S.B)  in order to reserve your seat.  If you have any questions, see Mr. Camacho in the A.S.B. room at lunch.

AESA

Interested in joining AESA (Asian Empowered Student Alliance) Come to our biweekly meetings tomorrow, wednesday, November 4th at 2:45 in room 568. Learn more about our efforts to help the survivors of the tragic tsunamis and floods in the Phillipines, Somoa, and Asia.

To all our students who have maintained a 3.0 and above this first progress report grading period.  Look for your name in the bulletin board this week, as we would like to celebrate and honor your progress thus far.  Who will make the list in the next progress report grading period?  There are 5 weeks left to make those improvements.  What do you need to improve?

Wednesday, November 4   |   PIQE Parent Workshop @ Room 601   |   Class is offered in ENGLISH and SPANISH at 8:30am and at 6pm

Do you think your parent(s)/guardian(s) can benefit from participating in an ongoing series of parent workshops focused on supporting you academically?  PLEASE invite your parents to come to our next PIQE class — TOMORROW — Wednesday, November 4.  No registration or confirmation is needed.  Simply inform your parents that there is a morning session at 8:30am and an evening session at 6pm.  They can choose to attend whichever one fits their schedule.

Tuesday and Thursday Tutoring After School   |   Learning Lab in Room 450 and T Cubed in Room 544   |   2:30am – 4pm

ALL students are welcome to drop in at our two after school tutoring locations on Tuesday and Thursday.  College tutors and some of YOUR teachers are available to help you with your academics, or simply come by to get organized and prioritize what you need to do for the week to be successful in your classes.  Come by and check us out!

Saturday, November 7   |   “So you want to be a lawyer”  Career exploration workshop @ University of San Diego   |   9am – 2pm

Calling all FUTURE LINCOLN LAWYERS!  There’s still space available for YOU to attend this FREE career exploration workshop at the University of San Diego in Linda Vista.  If you go, you will meet law school admissions officers, law students and current professional attorneys.  You can also find out about LOCAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES.  If interested, come by Room 450 today after school and talk to Ms. Cruz.  You may also sign up in the Career Center at lunchtime.

Friday, November 13 – Freshman for a Day @ San Diego State University – All Day

Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores – Would you like to experience what it’s like to be a college Freshman for a day?  SDSU’s Early Opportunities Program (EOP) has organized an event just for you to gain that first hand experience.  Space is VERY limited.  Students who are interested must demonstrate their commitment to their educational future.  Priority will be given to our Seniors and Juniors, however there will be space for Sophomores as well.  Stop by the Career Center today to sign up.  Deadline to sign up is this FRIDAY, Novmeber 6 by 3pm.

C/O 2012

C/O 2012 will have a lunch meeting on November 5th to begin the race for the position of VP and to discuss other plans and concerns.  Please meet in room 346 this Thursday, during lunch.  Come ready to share your ideas and build the momentum for the C/O 2012.  Student lunches will be available in the classroom.

Girls Basketball Tryouts

They will take place on Saturday, November 14th, from 2:45-5:15 pm in the New Gym.
All female student-athletes interested in trying out for the basketball team must receive clearance from the central office prior to tryouts. No one will be admitted without proper clearance. No exceptions!!!  If you need a physical, please go to the central office for a form.

Homecoming Court

We are having a meeting tomorrow – Wed. Nov. 4th – during lunch in room 146.  Bring your lunch and your service project ideas!

Boys Basketball

Students, Winter sports are coming up and that means Hornet Basketball is back in full effect!  Are you interested in playing boys basketball?  If so, tryouts begin Nov. 14th so get ready!

Circle of Friends

Circle of Friends. Remember that tomorrow, and every Wednesday, Circle of Friends meets during lunch. Please come to Room 447 at the beginning of lunch. Your school lunch will be waiting. New or interested members are welcome and community service credit is available. See you then!

Employment Opportunity

The County of San Diego is offering high school students an employment opportunity as a Student Worker. The rate of pay = $11.67. Students interested should go to the Career Center (room107) for more information. FYI – one Lincoln High student has applied for a position and will be working for the Sheriff’s Dept.

Lincoln Hat Policy

Students please be aware that Lincoln High School has a NO HAT policy.  Students caught wearing a hat by a staff member may be asked to give up the hat.  If the student is unwilling to give up the hat, they are subject to discipline and possible suspension.

MECHA Fundraiser

Every Wednesday MECHA will be selling TOSTILOCOS after school @ 3:00 p.m. In the main quad for the 9th grade center for SocialJustice.  Tostilocos will cost $2.75.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

All seniors must complete a minimum of 30 hours of community service. All 9th – 11th grade students are encouraged to participate in community service during the school year. Don’t wait until your senior year. See Mr Loessel, in the Career Center, if you have questions.

American Red Cross Club at Lincoln

Come be a part of a great organization new to Lincoln.  Besides CPR, the American Red Cross Club will help the Red Cross fulfill its humanitarian mission – to relieve human suffering by preventing, preparing for, and responding to emergencies. Your membership will help your community and even provide world wide support. Earn community service hours and add to your Senior Exhibition.  They meet every Tuesday after school.  Contact Mr. Monday in Public Safety – room 351 for more information or check them out at their booth on Club Rush Day.

Wave Program

The Winter Aquatic Vocational Education (W.A.V.E.) Program is co-sponsored by the City of San Diego and the American Red Cross. The WAVE Program provides an opportunity for “at risk” youths from low-income and minority households to receive a scholarship and participate in the lifeguard training course. The WAVE Program also requires candidates to complete a minimum of 25 hours of volunteer work at City of San Diego pools and a minimum of 5 hours at the American Red Cross.  Students can visit the Career Center to get an information brochure.

Writing for Literacy Essay Contest

Are you or know a 10th grade student interested in competing for a $500 top prize (other winners will also receive money) for writing a one thousand word essay?  The 2010 Student Writing for Literacy Essay Contest deadline is 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009.  See the library for details.
