On Sunday, May 23, 2010 Lincoln High and the community will honor their basketball program, home of the 2010 Div II State Champions. The banquet will take place at Jacobs Center at Market Creek Plaza, 404 Euclid Avenue, starting at 3:00pm. All are invited and encouraged to attend. Tickets can be purchased ($25 Adults and $15 students) from 9-3 Monday through Friday at Lincoln High, 4777 Imperial Avenue. Opportunities are also available for corporations and organizations to sponsor a table from $500 to $1,000.

The Hornets 75-69 victory over St. Francis of Mountain View was the culmination of a triumphant year. The Hornets had an overall record of 29-2. Under the leadership of Coach Jason Bryant, the team played extremely well, especially considering the program is only in its third year. Coach Bryant says he knew they had the talent, the challenge was keeping their focus. Braynt says, “I can’t say enough great things about these boys, they worked hard all year….six guys are on the all-academic team for the County.”

On April 20, recent San Diego City Council meeting, Fourth District Councilman Tony Young presented the team with a proclamation and commended them on their scholastic and academic accomplishments. Young said, “Typically it takes years of nurturing and development for a high school to reach this pinnacle of success. These student athletes assembled three short years ago when Lincoln re-opened.” It was proclaimed Lincoln High Day throughout the City of San Diego.

The community coalition, led by Lincoln alumni Rev. Rickey Laster, Debra Stephens and Lew Barnes felt compelled to participate in honoring the team. “ We wanted the team to know how proud we are of their representation of Lincoln High. Their sportsmanship throughout the season was extremely admirable,” says Stephens.

In addition to honoring the program, the event is also a fundraiser to support the entire basketball program. Committee member Sharon Powell, mother of player Norman Powell says, “ the funds raised will help offer more resources to the athletes.”

For more information on the banquet, contact Sharon Powell (858) 568-4339, Debra Stephens (619) 795-6144, or Ms. Renaud, (619) 266-6500 ext. 2127

The Lincoln Science Bowl Team came in 2nd and 3rd place in a competition against 6 teams from Preuss and 2 teams from La Jolla High School. We are so proud of the hard work that our students put in and grateful to coach Aaron Rubin for getting them ready for an amazing event. This is an impressive showing for a team that has been together for little more than one year. Well done!!
