MISSION STATEMENT
Inspiring the next generation of innovators by connecting our students with real world knowledge through hands-on experiences to create tomorrows leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
CENTER PROFILE
Our focus is to inspire a new generation of of innovators by engaging our students in enriching educational experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Students at S&E are encouraged to think critically and be creative problem solvers. Our students use industry standard tools to learn skills for the real world. Students at S&E are immersed in a college going culture and take courses that meet University of California and California State University A-G requirements. S&E offers extensive Advanced Placement course offerings.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS
S&E’s small school configuration lends to a supportive environment for students. S&E teachers are committed to their student’s success both inside and outside of the classroom. Students at S&E participate in Science Bowl, First Robotics, the Math Engineering Science Alliance (MESA), ACE Mentors, SMART Team, Science Fair, Internships, Job Shadows, San Diego Science Festival, Revolution Prep CAHSEE Intervention, Industry Day, and much more. S&E is finalizing it’s certification process with Project Lead the Way (PLTW). PLTW is a national Pre-engineering curriculum recognized by several esteemed universities. PLTW students can earn up to 4 college credits at S&E through a partnership with the San Diego Community College district. More information about PLTW can be accessed at www.pltw.org.

PARTNERS WITH INDUSTRY
The Center for Science and Engineering has an active and engaged Industry Partnership Team with members from Pfizer, Scripps Research Institute, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, San Diego State University, MESA, National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, and others. Our industry partners connect S&E to our community, enhance our program, and assists us in enrichment activities.
PATHWAY TO ENGINEERING COURSE OFFERINGS
Introduction to Engineering Design - A course that teaches problem-solving skills using a design development process. Models of product solutions are created, analyzed, and communicated using solid modeling computer design software.
Principles of Engineering – A course that helps students understand the field of engineering/ engineering technology. Exploring various technology systems and manufacturing processes help students learn how engineers and technicians use math, science and technology in an engineering problem solving process to benefit people. The course also includes concerns about social and political consequences of technological change.
Digital Electronics – A course in applied logic that encompasses the application of electronic circuits and devices. Computer simulation software is used to design and test digital circuitry prior to the actual construction of circuits and devices.
Biotechnical Engineering – Relevant projects from the diverse fields of bio-technology, bio-engineering, bio-medical engineering, and bio-molecular engineering enable students to apply and concurrently develop secondary-level knowledge and skills in biology, physics, technology, and mathematics.
Civil Engineering and Architecture – This course provides an overview of the fields of Civil Engineering and Architecture, while emphasizing the interrelationship and dependence of both fields on each other. Students use state of the art software to solve real world problems and communicate solutions to hands-on projects and activities. This course covers topics such as the roles of engineers and architects, project planning, site planning, building design, documentation, and presentation.
Capstone Course: Engineering Design and Development – An engineering research course in which students work in teams to research, design and construct a solution to an open-ended engineering problem. Students apply principles developed in the four preceding courses and are guided by a community mentor. They must present progress reports, submit a final written report and defend their solutions to a panel of outside reviewers at the end of the school year.
GET INVOLVED WITH STEM
- Robotics: Our First Robotics team is set to compete against other regional high schools in 2011. We need creative and science minded students to program and build our robot. Please contact our coach, Rafael Navarro, in room 432 for more information about meeting times and dates. Mr. Navarro’s email is rnavarro1@sandi.net. http://www.usfirst.org
- Architecture & Civil Engineers Mentors (ACE): Members of ACE work on real world projects with professional architects and engineers from industry. ACE meets every Wednesday 2:30 – 4:30 pm in room 405. Mr. Garcia is the ACE advisor. Feel free to contact him if you have any question at ogarcia@sandi.net. http://www.acementor.org
- Math Engineering Science Achievement (MESA): Get involved with fun, hands-on projects and other college awareness activities that promote STEM college and career pathways. Our MESA program meets every Thursday from 2:30 – 4:30 pm in room 405. Mr. Garcia is the MESA advisor. Feel free to contact him if you have any question at ogarcia@sandi.net. http://www.mesa.sdsu.edu/aboutmesa.html
- Science Bowl: The Science Bowl is an event in which students compete as teams of four players against other teams in a double elimination quiz bowl. The Lincoln team competes in a regional competition held in february sponsored by the National Organization of Black Chemist and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE). This competition is unique in that at least 20% of the questions are about African-American inventors, scientists and engineers. The Science Bowl Team meets every Friday after school from 2:30-4:30 pm in room 357. Please contact Allison Dickens for more information. Her email is adickens@sandi.net. http://www.nobcche.org/national-conference/science-bowl
- Academic League: The Academic League is a Jeopardy style competition for high school teams. Teams answer questions based on the state curriculum and current events. There are four divisions in San Diego County: East County, North County, San Diego Central, and South Bay with approximately 80 high schools participating countywide. Starting in February, ITV tapes the best matches from each division and airs them weekly. At the end of the season four division winners qualify for the county championship tournament which is aired, in late April, on ITV Channel 16 LIVE! All Lincoln students are welcome to try out for our Academic League team. Please contact Allison Dickens for more information. Her email is adickens@sandi.net. http://www.sdcoe.tv/?loc=al/about
- Go Green Club: Lincoln’s Go Green Club members are responsible caretakers of the planet. They engage in projects and activities heighten community awareness of and participation in environmentally responsible behavior. The Go Green Club meets every Friday from 2:30 – 4:30 pm in room 455 with Ms. Ogo. For more information you cant email Ms. Ogo at jogo@sandi.net. http://www.gogreeninitiative.org
