CAHSEE

INFORMATION REGARDING THE MARCH CAHSEE FOR THE CLASS OF 2013

The California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) is quickly approaching and we are doing everything possible to get you ready to meet and exceed this essential graduation requirement.

  • English Language Arts is on March 8th
  • Math is on March 9th

What does the CAHSEE Cover? The exam consists of two parts: (1) English-language arts (reading and writing) and (2) mathematics. All questions are aligned to California content standards adopted by the State Board of Education.

Requirements for Passing the CAHSEE: You must earn a score of 350 or higher on each part of the CAHSEE to pass the exam.  Lincoln students aim for a score of 380 or higher to be considered proficient in both English and math.

Why is the CAHSEE so important to your student and our school?  Students will not be eligible to receive a diploma if they do not pass the CAHSEE.  In the spring of 2010 Lincoln received an Academic Performance Index (API) score of 612.  This put us in a position to be one of the most improved high schools as our API scores improved by 72 points since 2008. A significant part of our API score is based on the 10th grade CAHSEE test scores and students’ attendance at the exam.

What opportunities do you have to make sure that you are ready to take the CAHSEE?

  • Diagnostic Assessments: Your English and math teachers have been giving you tests on a regular basis to determine what you need to learn in their class to get ready for the CAHSEE.
  • CAHSEE Prep: All students have access to CAHSEE Prep classes after school and during Saturday Academy.
  • CAHSEE Boot camp: Many 10th grade students will participate in a CAHSEE Boot Camp program during the month of February as an intensive effort to get them ready for the exam.

Are there incentives to pass the CAHSEE? The most obvious incentive for passing the CAHSEE is that you won’t have to take it again.  It’s best to get this graduation requirement out of the way so you don’t have to worry about it in your junior and senior years.  There are also other incentives that we provide to students:

  • Raffle tickets for attendance: When you show up on each testing day you get a raffle ticket for a drawing where we give away iPods, clothes, iTunes gift cards, restaurant gift cards, movie tickets, and more.
  • Trip to Seaworld:  All class of 2013 students who pass in March will go on a fieldtrip during school hours to Seaworld with free admission to the park.
  • Free SAT Prep: Class of 2013 tudents who score in the proficient range with a 380 or higher will receive access to an online SAT prep course worth $300.00.  Check out www.revolutionprep.com to preview this proven and effective program for increased SAT scores.

Please contact your counselor or center administrator if you have any questions about the CAHSEE.
